WWE: Wake With Ebullience
As we go into Wrestlemania 2021 weekend, this felt like an appropriate topic to discuss.
My husband got me to start watching the WWE with him a few years ago and, honestly, I love it. I appreciate the talent that it takes to walk the line (or the top rope, if you will) of fighting without the actual violence. ***Spoiler alert *** It’s not real. And I like that. I don’t need to spend time watching two people pummel each other. But watching actors/athletes PRETEND to pummel each other while simultaneously being the most extra, over-the-top, super-humans you have ever seen?? Yeah. I’m here for it.
My favorite thing about WWE is the walk-out performances. If you are not familiar, each performer gets maybe a minute to walk from the stage to the ring. There is loud hype music, spectacular light shows, sometimes choreographed skits, and the performer – who definitely has a cool nickname – in a costume that I can only describe as “look at my body but let’s pretend its for functional purposes”. Its… wait for it… Glorious! (Thats a reference to the “Glorious” Bobby Rhode).
Anyway. It is all very self-gratifying and over the top, but it works! When you see your favorite performer walk out, you hear the music, and they put on a show, it gets you fired up just to watch the match! Imagine how it feels to be on the other side! It’s the perfect confidence boost.
That is the kind of confidence I want to carry into my everyday life. In WWE, you see even the first performers, the early card matches, whose names no one knows, get fired up during their walk out and its contagious. Why can’t I do that?
We all have our pump-up music that we use for working out or to help us wake up for a particularly early morning. For me its a lot of Bon Jovi (“It’s My Life” gets me psyched for anything!). Now imagine every time you leave the house, your pump-up jam is playing, the crowd is cheering you on, you feel and look your best, and you are ready to take on anything! You are already a champion. How could that change your confidence to face the day? How would that change your outlook on life?
The new self-care, is picking out a theme song; blasting it while you strut from your front door to your car; wearing whatever makes you feel most confident; and heading into work like the bad-ass, main event that you are!
Maybe don’t power-bomb your boss into a wooden table? But embrace that WWE Superstar energy and bring it to your daily life! You are the main event of your day!
